Choose your bungalow

Three bungalows. Not three copies.

Twenty-two square metres indoors each, plus a private balcony, and the same working kit in every one. After that they part ways — one is concrete and closest to the shop, one is tiled through and takes the daylight, and one sits at the end of the path where the monkeys come.

  • Modern Bungalow 1 — large white floor tile, a desk with an office chair, a floor fan and full-height balcony doors onto the banana trees

The one Airbnb guests keep picking

    Modern Bungalow 1

    The concrete one

Polished concrete in the shower, big white tile underfoot, and the shortest walk to cold water.

    • Polished concrete bathroom
    • Concrete balcony · lounger, table and chairs
    • The closest bungalow to the minimart
    • No side window — the darkest, coolest of the three
    • Desk with an office chair
  • Modern Bungalow 2 — desk with an ergonomic office chair, wall television and full-height doors onto the balcony with a table and chairs

    Best for a working week

    Modern Bungalow 2

    The tiled one

Daylight falls straight onto the desk, and tilework good enough that you notice it.

    • Grey tiled shower — warm and domestic
    • Desk with a proper office chair
    • The same good tile in the room, shower and balcony
    • Daylight from a side window as well as the doors
    • Lounger and a round table for two
  • Modern Bungalow 3 — wooden table and chairs at the window, desk and drawers alongside

    Furthest from the road

    Modern Bungalow 3

    The quiet one

Wood instead of steel, a bench on the balcony, and macaques through the trees in the morning.

    • Beige tiled shower
    • Wooden desk, wooden table and chairs
    • Balcony with a bench, a chair and a table
    • The biggest window of the three
    • Furthest from the road — monkeys visit

Two guests in each, and one child over three stays free — ask us and we will add a pillow and a blanket. Rate depends on the season — ask for your dates.

The same in all three

The three differ in character, not in comfort. Whichever one is free for your dates, this is already in it.

  • King-size bed, 200 cm
  • Air conditioning
  • Floor fan
  • Fridge
  • Microwave
  • Toaster
  • Kettle
  • Hairdryer
  • Extension lead for a laptop
  • Flatscreen TV
  • Walk-in shower, hot water
  • Furnished private balcony

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are ordered from the hostess next door and brought over to your balcony.

Check dates & prices

There are only three. From December to February they are usually taken three to four weeks ahead, and New Year goes well before that.

Inside every bungalow

Feel yourself more comfortable

The bungalows were completed in November 2023 with high-quality interior finishes and materials, soundproofing and ventilation.

  • King-size bed, 200 cm

Large, genuinely comfortable beds with good pillows and blackout curtains — guests mention the sleep quality more than anything else.

    Super comfy bed!
    Hampus A.
  • 300 Mb/s fibre Wi-Fi

A 300 Mb/s fibre line — the single thing remote workers mention first. Enough for calls, uploads and a full working week.

Finally, great Wi-Fi on the island!
    Nicolas M.
  • Split A/C you sleep through

Modern, quiet split units plus a floor fan. They do not rattle you awake at three in the morning.

Modern aircon and a very quiet fan made my stay comfortable during the night.
    Anna
  • Private bathroom, walk-in shower

Bright, spacious bathroom with a walk-in shower, hot water and new fixtures — polished concrete in one bungalow, tiled in the other two.

Everything was fresh, clean, and there were no bugs at all.
    Anna
  • Large private balcony

A large private balcony with real furniture — the room you will actually spend your evenings in.

A beautiful little terrace, perfect for relaxing in the evenings.
    Ronja
  • Desk and an ergonomic chair

A proper desk and chair, spot lighting and outlets with USB ports. Several guests have worked full weeks from here.

Loved the workspace with fast WiFi.
    Andrew

2026 · Renovation year

New rooms, new team, a higher standard

The bungalows are being refreshed this year, a new team has come on, and the level of hospitality is going up with them. Everything that made guests come back stays; everything else is getting better.

  • Renovation under way

The rooms are being refreshed through the season. New photography follows the moment it is done.

  • A new team

New people on site, meeting guests, keeping the place and handling anything you need during the stay.

  • A higher standard

Regular cleaning, fresh linen and towels even on long stays — the service level of a serviced apartment, at bungalow prices.

As it looks now

Better in person than in the photographs

These frames came from guests who stayed recently. Since they were taken there is art on the walls, new textiles on the beds, and a renovation running through this year — so what you arrive to is ahead of what you see here, not behind it.

  • The rooms have moved onPictures on the walls, new textiles, refreshed finishes. Nothing here has been staged to look better than it is.
  • Renovation running this yearRoom by room, through the season — and the standard goes up with every one that is finished.
  • The platforms are behindBooking, Airbnb and Tripadvisor still show the older set. New photography goes everywhere once the work is done.

Workation

A desk that actually works

Lonely Beach is a backpacker beach with village internet. We put fibre in, and it is the first thing long-stay guests write to us about.

Workspace with an ergonomic mesh chair at the window

What the line does

300Mb/s
Fibre line
14ms
Latency

AIS fibre · The line the property pays for. It is not a guarantee: real speed varies with network load, and this is an island, where outages and faults happen. The connection is the provider's, and we cannot be responsible for it.

The practical side

Time zone
GMT+7 — six hours ahead of London, eleven ahead of New York, level with Jakarta and Hanoi.
Mobile as a fallback
4G/5G coverage at Lonely Beach is good. A tourist SIM with a large data package costs a few hundred baht and makes a reliable hotspot if the line ever drops.
Power
Standard Thai mains, 220 V, sockets that take both flat and round pins. As anywhere on the island, a storm can bring a short cut — a laptop battery covers it.
Somewhere else to work
Several cafés on the lane open early and have their own Wi-Fi, so a change of scene is a three-minute walk away.

What is at the desk

  • A real desk and chair

A full-width worktop with a proper mesh office chair — not a stool and a bedside table. You can sit at it for eight hours.

  • An extension lead, so the cable reaches

There is no socket at the desk by the window — but there is an extension lead in every room, so you run the cable across and work where you want to. Sockets in the room have USB ports.

  • Quiet enough for calls

Soundproofing, a quiet split air conditioner and a position set back from the bar street. Guests take calls from the desk and from the balcony.

Long stays

Made for longer stays

Guests have worked full weeks and full months from these rooms. Monthly stays run through the low season, May to October, and the rate falls with the length of stay — send your dates and we will quote properly.

  • Discounts are a low-season thing

From May to October seven nights already earns a discount and a month earns a bigger one.

  • Cleaning and fresh linen

Regular cleaning and fresh linen and towels through a long stay, not just on arrival.

  • Set up to live in

A fridge, a microwave and a kettle for what you carry back, laundry two minutes away and a beach at the end of the lane.

Breakfast

Breakfast on your balcony.

Both the mini-market next door and the Bamboo Hut restaurant across the lane belong to the same hostess — the one who meets you at check-in, and who is usually behind the minimart counter. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are ordered from her: Thai and European, coffee, tea, fresh juice. Say the evening before what time suits you, and she brings it over to your balcony.

It is cooked with care and served properly, and guests write about her as warmly as about the food. It is paid for separately and is not part of the room rate.

Who we are

Modern bungalows for rent on Lonely Beach, Koh Chang

Three modern bungalows a few steps off the Lonely Beach road, finished in 2023. Many of you already know the quality of these bungalows, and since 2024 we have been welcoming you back under a new name — Modern Bungalows.

There is no reception desk here. There is a hostess. She meets every guest and hands over the keys, brings an extra beach towel the moment you ask, points you at whatever you need on the lane, and keeps an eye on the place. Guests mention her in review after review — often before they mention the rooms.

The rest of the concept is simple: independent, relaxed living with privacy and minimal disturbance, within walking distance of a beautiful beach on a tropical island inside a national park. It suits easygoing travellers best — if you are looking for a resort with a restaurant and room service, we are honest enough to say we are probably not the right fit.

Island guide

Lonely Beach

A neighbourhood guide to the stretch of Koh Chang we live on — what is where, how far it is, and what is worth your evening.

Swings on the sand at Lonely Beach at sunset, Koh Chang

4/72 Moo 1, Lonely Beach, Ko Chang

Step off our lane and you are in the middle of it. Sleepy Owl does the breakfast and the coffee that gets a morning started, and it is close enough that you can go in flip-flops. Magic Garden has been here longer than most of the island and still puts live music on. When the evening moves inland, Himmel and the little bars around Soi 1 keep it going as late as you want. We are four hundred metres from that, set back off the road: no crowd, no talking outside your door — though on a loud night the bass does carry this far, and guests say it did not stop them sleeping.

Everything practical is a minute or two on foot: Seven Day, a few metres along the lane, for cold water and beer at midnight, Buddy Drugstore for anything the pharmacy at home would sell you, Baan Thai Massage for the hour after a long swim, laundry and scooter rental on the same short stretch.

The sand is a twelve-minute walk north — the best swimming is at the top end, past Nature Beach and Siam Beach, where the bottom drops away quickly and the water stays clear. And the sunsets are right there: the whole beach faces west, the restaurants sit on the sand, and you can watch the sun go into the sea over a proper dinner without going anywhere else.

Our neighbours

If you want the authentic Thai village atmosphere

Right across the lane, Bamboo Hut keeps the older Koh Chang alive: simple thatched-roof bungalows, fresh breeze and palm shade.

It is worth a look even if you are not staying there: it is the Koh Chang that most of the coast has already built over. It belongs to the same hostess as the minimart where you are met on arrival, and it is one of the two kitchens the breakfasts come from. Support our neighbours — they are what keeps this lane feeling like a village rather than a resort strip.
